Duke Energy is working on a permanent repair for an issue that led to varying electrical, power, and appliance issues in Creedmoor.
The “equipment issue” the day before Thanksgiving led to hundreds of people having problems that have extended through last week.
According to Duke Energy, two power lines in the Creedmoor area began sagging and made contact, causing an outage that affected around 2,300 customers for hours. A spokesperson for Duke Energy said the large number was due to the power lines affected being larger than usual.
Several Creedmoor residents took to social media to say the outage affected their HVAC units, with some needing their heating systems replaced and claiming Spectrum needed to replace cable boxes inside affected homes and apartments.
The issues with heating could pose a problem for many affected as Monday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day due to snow in the forecast for some areas.
Duke Energy said has made temporary repairs to the lines, but permanent repair work scheduled for Wednesday.
Duke Energy said Friday it will reimburse Creedmoor customers for damage caused by its equipment issue.
To qualify, customers must fill out Duke Energy’s online claim form. Duke must verify that the person’s home was connected to the lines involved in the Nov. 26 outage. If both conditions are met, Duke said customers should receive reimbursement.
