Sibanye Stillwater (SBSW -0.59%) is another South African mining company and is a top play in platinum and palladium. It’s also a top producer of gold and has interests in lithium mining projects, both of which are basic materials used in manufacturing electric vehicles and electronics.
In 2024, Sibanye Stillwater strengthened its position as a leading platinum producer with the acquisition of U.S.-based Reldan Group, a recycler of electronic and industrial waste. The company further strengthened its platinum position with the $129 million acquisition of Metallix in September 2025. Metallix operates two processing and recycling operations in North Carolina, where it produces recycled precious metals — gold, silver, and platinum group metals — mostly from industrial waste streams.
The company often pays a dividend, targeting it at 25% to 35% of normalized earnings. Having suspended its dividend in the second half of 2023, Sibanye-Stillwater resumed dividend payments in the second half of 2025. As of mid-September 2026, Sibanye-Stillwater stock had a forward dividend yield of 2.5%.
Further illustrating its attention to maintaining a strong financial footing, Sibanye Stillwater doesn’t rely heavily on leverage; its net debt-to-adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) ratio at the end of June 2026 was 0.18. This, along with $2.95 billion in liquidity, puts the company in a strong position for a capital-intensive business like mining.
