Meta has appointed Indian-origin technology executive Chirantan “CJ” Desai as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, putting him in charge of the company’s newly launched push to bring its artificial intelligence, software and infrastructure capabilities to businesses and developers.
Desai will report directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company said on Monday. He joins Meta after serving as president and CEO of database software company MongoDB, a position he took in November 2025.
“I am very excited to share that I’m joining Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer to lead Meta’s enterprise efforts reporting to Mark Zuckerberg,” Desai said in a statement. “This newly formed unit will focus on translating Meta’s AI leadership into transformative products for developers and businesses.”
Zuckerberg said, “I’m excited about beginning this new chapter for Meta and looking forward to working closely with CJ.”
The appointment comes less than a month after Meta unveiled its Enterprise Platform, which the company has described as a new major pillar of its business. The platform is aimed at offering companies and developers access to Meta’s AI models, agents and infrastructure.
Who is Chirantan ‘CJ’ Desai?
Desai has more than three decades of experience in enterprise software, cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and product development. He began his technology career at Oracle in 1995 after completing a master’s degree in computer science and an MBA at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He spent more than seven years at Oracle and was involved in the launch of the company’s first cloud service.
Desai subsequently held senior positions at Pivotal, Symantec and EMC, where he led the company’s Emerging Technologies Division. In 2016, he joined ServiceNow as chief product and engineering officer. He later became chief operating officer and then president and COO, with responsibilities spanning product development, engineering, AI research, cloud infrastructure and customer success.
Desai moved to Cloudflare as president of product and engineering in October 2024. He became president and CEO of MongoDB in November 2025, succeeding Dev Ittycheria.
His move to Meta comes less than a year after taking over at MongoDB and places an executive with a predominantly enterprise-technology background at the centre of Meta’s efforts to expand beyond its consumer-focused businesses.
What is Meta Enterprise Platform?
Meta launched its Enterprise Platform as a way for businesses and developers to use the company’s AI technology and infrastructure. “Today we are starting the next major pillar of our business, Meta Enterprise Platform,” Zuckerberg said.
The platform includes products such as Meta’s Muse AI agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. Meta has said the offering will allow businesses to access its AI models, agents and other technology for commercial applications.
Desai will oversee the development and expansion of these enterprise products, with Zuckerberg describing his experience across software, AI, infrastructure, business applications and security as an asset for the new division.
“Our goal is to make Meta the place enterprises come to scale their businesses,” Desai said.
Desai’s background beyond technology
Desai studied at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a master’s degree in computer science and an MBA. He later received a Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from the university.
He has also supported education initiatives at the institution with his wife, Hina Desai, including computer science and business scholarships and fellowships. Desai has spoken about facing financial difficulties while studying and receiving support through a research assistantship.
“I believe that education is the biggest income equaliser,” Desai said in an interview with the university’s Siebel School of Computing and Data Science. He is also a guest lecturer at Stanford University.
Meta’s appointment of Desai comes as the company seeks to turn its investments in AI models, agents and computing infrastructure into a broader enterprise business. The new division will report directly to Zuckerberg, highlighting its importance to Meta’s future commercial strategy.
