Domestic Metals Corp (TSX-V:DMCU, OTCQB:DMCUF, FRA:03E0) has intersected significant carbonate replacement deposit (CRD)-style alteration in the first two holes of its inaugural diamond drilling program at the Smart Creek copper-gold-silver project in Montana.
The company completed two holes of around 1,111 metres in total in the Maxville Mining District of Granite County, with drilling now underway on a third hole.
Core from both holes contains evidence of copper-bearing mineralization and alteration, with Domestic Metals focusing on understanding the structural and stratigraphic controls that could help define mineralization at the project.
Core from the first hole reached 456 metres, and the second hole reached 654 metres. Both have been submitted for analysis. First assay results are expected towards the end of November.
“We are pleased and excited by the mineralization that we are seeing in drill core to date,” CEO and director Gordon Neal said.
“The first two holes contain significant Carbonate Replacement Deposit style alteration, and our immediate objective is to understand structural and stratigraphic controls to develop understanding of mineralization styles/local context.”
Both show signs of copper-bearing rock. One hole found strong copper and sulphide mineralization between roughly 151 and 316 metres deep, including copper-rich zones near 205 to 208 metres and a band of dense copper-zinc minerals at 316 metres.
Another found copper closer to surface and a mineral-bearing vein at 342 metres. Both holes show a type of alteration the company is targeting.
Samples from the first hole are at a lab, and first assay results are expected late November. A third hole is now being drilled.
Scheelite was also identified at 126.1 metres.
The current drilling phase aims to delineate CRD-style mineralization at the Gold Coin Prospect, a target identified by Rio Tinto.
Historical drilling at the prospect returned 110 metres grading 0.8% copper, including 89 metres at nealry 1% copper.
Domestic Metals plans to extend this mineralized zone through subsequent drilling while testing potential links to porphyry copper-molybdenum mineralization.
The company also intends to test additional epithermal and porphyry targets across Smart Creek, Sunrise and Radio Tower.
Neal said the Smart Creek target area has exploration potential for high-grade porphyry, exotic copper, CRD and skarn gold-copper, as well as epithermal gold mineralization.
