Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha has challenged the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) to be at the forefront as Guyana leads regional efforts in agriculture production and food security.
According to a Ministry of Agriculture press release, the minister made this remark last week during a visit to GSA’s main campus at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara to discuss some of the policies that will be implemented over the next five years. It said he told students, teachers, and other staff of the institution that the government was positioning GSA to be at the forefront, producing graduates who are innovative and solution-driven. Further, as the Caribbean Community’s (Caricom) premier agricultural acade-mic institution, GSA is a “critical component” to developing a resilient agriculture sector for the region, it stated.
“As the next generation of agriculturists, GSA must play a direct role in achiev-ing every target set by Caricom which included ‘Vision 25 by 2025 + 5’ through enhanced training, meaningful research, and community engagement as the future of agriculture depends on our ability to produce skilled techni-cians, agro-entrepreneurs, and researchers,” the release quoted him as saying.
