ELK COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A state department is backing a major industry in Elk County as the Department of Community and Economic Development celebrated the expansion of Nichols Portland Incorporated into Saint Marys.
State officials say the new facility will serve as the company’s headquarters, bringing power metal production to rural communities.
Company leaders shared that the project has been years in the making – and will create dozens of jobs throughout the region.
The department says this is part of a larger push to drive industrial growth across rural western Pennsylvania.
“It’s both a big deal because they’re creating a whole bunch of jobs, but also because it’s this industry, powdered metals really doubling down on this part of Pennsylvania where it’s had so much success for so long. Governor Shapiro has always said, ‘we want to be competitive as hell.’ This is an example of us competing, in this case, with Maine, for a great investment and couldn’t be happier to be here today with these industry leaders,” said DCED secretary Rick Singer.
State Representative Mike Armanini, Saint Marys city council members, and Elk County commissioners were also present to show support.
