India’s equity markets delivered a strong rebound this week, boosting the combined market capitalisation of eight of the nation’s ten most-valued companies by Rs 2,05,185.08 crore. The upswing came after a brief corrective phase and was supported by firmer global cues, renewed institutional buying and reduced volatility. The Nifty gained 417.75 points (1.64 per cent) to close the week at 25,910.05, while the Sensex climbed 1,346.50 points (1.62 per cent) to end at 84,562.78.
Which companies drove the surge?
Telecom and energy stocks were the biggest contributors to the week’s wealth creation. Bharti Airtel emerged as the top performer, adding Rs 55,652.54 crore in value and taking its market capitalisation to Rs 11,96,700.84 crore.
Reliance Industries followed closely with an increase of Rs 54,941.84 crore, pushing its valuation to Rs 20,55,379.61 crore and reinforcing its position at the top of India’s corporate leaderboard.
Tata Consultancy Services added Rs 40,757.75 crore, taking its valuation to Rs 11,23,416.17 crore. Infosys saw a gain of Rs 10,448.32 crore, closing the week with a market capitalisation of Rs 6,24,198.80 crore.
How did banks and consumer majors perform?
India’s leading lenders posted healthy gains. The State Bank of India added Rs 10,522.9 crore to reach Rs 8,92,923.79 crore. HDFC Bank’s valuation increased by Rs 9,149.13 crore to Rs 15,20,524.34 crore, while ICICI Bank advanced by Rs 20,834.35 crore, taking its value to Rs 9,80,374.43 crore.
Hindustan Unilever saw a modest rise of Rs 2,878.25 crore, bringing its valuation to Rs 5,70,187.06 crore.
Which firms bucked the trend?
Despite the broader rally, two companies in the top 10 list saw erosion in value. Bajaj Finance’s market capitalisation fell by Rs 30,147.94 crore to Rs 6,33,573.38 crore. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) also posted a decline of Rs 9,266.12 crore, ending at Rs 5,75,100.42 crore.
Blue-chip strength anchors the broader recovery
Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel continue to dominate India’s valuation rankings, reflecting their consistent ability to attract investor interest. The sharp weekly gains underscore the resilience of blue-chip counters, which remain central to the market’s broader recovery despite uneven performance among other large-caps.
