A temporary trading curb — known locally as a sidecar — has been activated amid a sharp plunge in the Kospi during intraday trading on Tuesday.

A sidecar halts program trading when certain market indexes fluctuate beyond a designated threshold.

As of 12:15 p.m., the Kospi recorded 5,946.63, down 297.5 points, or 4.76 percent, from the previous trading session.
