Silver (SI=F) December futures opened at $61.78 per ounce on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, up 0.3% compared to Tuesday’s opening price of $61.58. Silver prices gave way this morning, reaching $60.28 as of 6:56 a.m. ET.

Silver prices opened at their highest level in a week, but those gains have faded, and silver is sliding lower in early trading ahead of the release of the Fed’s September meeting minutes later today.

At the moment, expectations are holding that the Fed will leave rates unchanged on October 28 at over 78%, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool.

But expectations remain that rates could rise one more time before year’s end. This morning, FedWatch predicts nearly a 69% chance the Fed will raise its target rate by 25 basis points following its December meeting.
