The trade body has revealed a plan to tackle high prices, revised trade policies and improve appetite for apprentices.

They are calling for government to immediately simplify regulation and administrative burden, and secure UK scrap resource.

The plan follows their State of the Metals Industry report, which canvassed 200 companies. In it 79% of respondents say that current trade policies do not support their competitiveness, 89% report that raw material prices are too high and 69% state that energy is still a major challenge.

Interest in apprenticeships is waning, according to the report, with an 11% drop in the number of firms seeing vocational learning as a priority.

In addition, less than 10% of companies are fully ready for the introduction of the Carbon Broder Adjustment Mechanism and more than half of the metals sector is making steady progress towards net-zero.
