  • Crypto ETFs now cover assets beyond Bitcoin and Ether, including Solana, and XRP, but trusts and registered funds carry different legal protections.

  • The SEC asked 27 questions about novel ETF rules, scrutinizing staking products over lock-up periods that could prevent funds from meeting redemptions.

  • It sounds nuts, but SoFi is giving new Active Invest users up to $1,000 in stock for a limited time, and all it takes is a $50 deposit to get started. See for yourself (Sponsor)

Ask most investors what a crypto ETF holds, and you’ll probably hear two names: Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and Ether (CRYPTO:ETH). That picture is out of date. Exchange-traded products tied to other crypto assets already trade, and the industry is building the plumbing to make them easier to use.

Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Commission has asked the public whether its rules for “novel” ETFs, a group that includes crypto, still fit. For a conservative investor, the two stories together answer one question: what are you actually buying when you buy a crypto fund?

Grayscale’s Lineup Shows How Far the Menu Reaches

On October 21, 2026, Grayscale Investments expanded in-kind contribution access to ten of its digital asset products, according to TronWeekly. The list includes the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, the Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, and ETFs or trusts tied to Avalanche (CRYPTO:AVAX), Chainlink (CRYPTO:LINK), Dogecoin (CRYPTO:DOGE), Hyperliquid (CRYPTO:HYPE), Solana (CRYPTO:SOL), Sui (CRYPTO:SUI), XRP (CRYPTO:XRP), and Zcash (CRYPTO:ZEC).

The report distinguishes between “ETFs or trusts.” A trust is a vehicle that holds an asset on behalf of its shareholders, and it can work under a different legal framework than a registered fund. The labels look similar on a brokerage screen, but the structures underneath can differ.

In-kind contributions let eligible investors hand over coins they already own in exchange for fund shares, instead of selling for cash first. The swap runs through an authorized participant, a large trading firm approved to create and redeem fund shares directly with the issuer. According to the report and Grayscale, this can avoid a taxable sale and cut trading steps.

This is a tool for big holders. According to Grayscale Investments, its minimums range from about $80,300 for the Solana product to about $364,800 for the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF. The report adds that retail investors without a broker won’t see the feature immediately. It ties the move to the SEC’s July 2025 decision permitting in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto exchange-traded products.
