The first images of the exclusive bonus item for the new Lego PlayStation have surfaced. Anyone who buys the set directly from the Lego Shop will receive a 276-piece Astro Bot model as a gift.
Lego and Sony have released a PS1 made of 1.911 building blocks for €159,99. announcedBrick Tap’s insider tip has now been confirmed by leaked images. The free bonus item shows the small robot hovering on a base with the logo. The figure has movable limbs and interchangeable eye stones for different facial expressions.
These extras are not sold separately by Lego. They are only available as part of promotions in their own online shop. The set will be released on October 1st at PlayStation Direct and three days later in the official Lego Store.
Scalpers are already waiting for the remaining stock.
On the open market, the miniature is becoming incredibly expensive. Exclusive Lego add-ons regularly end up on eBay at exorbitant prices because the quantities are extremely limited. In previous promotions, resellers demanded three-figure sums for small plastic extras. Anyone who wants the figure has to order at midnight on the release day.
The Danish brick-building giant is strategically using its mascot to encourage digital purchases. A clever move. Fans of the PlayStation platformer are offered real added value. However, the look of the angular, blocky figure isn’t to everyone’s taste.
Manufacturers like Youtooz have been demonstrating for years how detailed collectible figures They look like they have no visible studs. With Lego, organic characters quickly appear bulky and poorly designed. The angular aesthetic completely ruins the rounded look of the little robot. For hardcore collectors, however, rarity on the shelf is often all that matters in the end.
The 276 extra pieces are a nice bonus, but the angular design doesn’t do justice to Astro Bot’s charming aesthetic at all. For the money saved on reseller prices, true fans would be better off buying detailed collector figures without the studded look.
